Pedalo with a slide in Caleta de Fuste: the hour that actually works with kids
Updated October 1, 2026 · 6 min read
The pedalo with a slide in Caleta de Fuste costs €20, and that is per group of up to four people – for a family of four that is the cheapest way onto the water this island has. 4.5 stars from 115 reviews. The bay on the east coast is, on a normal day, the calmest water you will find without leaving the island, and the decisive advantage is not the price: you can turn back at any time. With small children, an hour you can abandon is worth more than a four-hour trip you cannot.

Most water activities on Fuerteventura have to be planned around the wind. This one mostly does not, and that single fact is why it belongs on a family list. The operator’s description is one sentence long: rent a pedal boat with a slide and go around the calm bay.
Five offers in the same bay
| Excursion | Duration | From | Rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pedalo with a slide | Rental | €20 per group up to 4 people | 4.5 ★ · 115 | families with kids who want to be in the water |
| Stand-up paddle session | 1 hour | €15 | 4.2 ★ · 57 | parents who want to take turns |
| SUP course in Caleta de Fuste | 1.5 hours | €35 | 5.0 ★ · 37 | people who want to actually learn it, not just try it |
| Jet ski circuit | 20 minutes | €68 per group up to 2 people | 4.6 ★ · 207 | teenagers and adults, not small children |
| Catamaran sailing experience | 4 hours | €64 | 4.7 ★ · 798 | families with older kids who want a half day |
Four of the five last an hour or less. That is typical for this bay, and with small children it is the whole point.
Why this one suits children when boat trips often do not
A pedalo removes the three things that make boat trips hard with young children. There is no fixed schedule, so nobody is trapped for two hours. There is no engine noise and no diesel smell, which is where a good share of childhood seasickness begins. And you are never more than a few minutes from the beach you left, which means the decision to go back in is always available.
That is the opposite of how a catamaran or a dolphin trip works. Both can be excellent with children of the right age, and we have set out the age question for those in boat trips with kids. But they commit you. A pedalo does not.
The slide is the part children remember and the part that needs a decision from you before you push off. A slide puts a child into open water away from the beach, where they cannot stand up. Whether that is fine or out of the question depends on your child’s swimming, not on the boat.
What the operator sets, and what the offer page does not tell you
The description does not state a minimum age. Operators here set different limits, and the binding answer is on the booking page for your date — check it there.
The same question applies to the rental period. The rental is listed as one day, which for a beach rental is not a promise of twelve hours on the water. Ask what a booking actually buys: an hour, a half hour, or a block you choose on arrival. The price, by contrast, is clearly stated – €20 applies per group of up to four people, not per head.
Two more questions are worth asking at the hut rather than assuming. Are life jackets provided in children’s sizes, and are they fitted rather than handed over? And is there a staff member watching the bay while boats are out? Ask what is usual and take the answer as it comes. No article can promise you a supervision arrangement.
There is no shade, no toilet and no changing the weather
A pedalo is an open plastic hull with a bench. There is no canopy, no shade, and nowhere below. In the middle of the day on this coast that is the limiting factor, not the pedalling. Early morning or late afternoon is a materially better hour with small children, and it is free to choose.
There is no toilet either. With a toddler that sets the realistic outing at well under an hour, and it is the single most common reason a family cuts one short. Go from the beach, not from a café two streets away, and go before you board.
For sun protection, heat and how long a particular child should be out in it, ask a pharmacist or your paediatrician. That is a genuine medical question with a genuine answer, and it is not ours to give.
Pedalling is the adults’ job
The thing nobody mentions in the photographs: a pedalo with two children aboard is powered by the grown-ups. Children’s legs usually do not reach the pedals properly, and after ten minutes of novelty they will stop anyway. If you are expecting a relaxing float, bring lower expectations or a second adult.
Wind still matters, even here. The bay is sheltered, not sealed. On a windy day the drift away from the beach is manageable and the way back is not fun. If the hut says no, that is the service working. Our guide to wind and swell explains how to read the forecast before you walk down.
What else is in the same bay for the same money
The stand-up paddle session in Caleta de Fuste costs €15 per person for one hour and has 4.2 stars from 57 reviews. That is a solo activity on flat water and a reasonable pairing: one parent paddles while the other pedals with the children, then swap. It is a poor substitute for a young child, though, because balance is the whole exercise. Anyone who wants to learn it properly from the start takes the SUP course at 1.5 hours for €35, which holds 5.0 stars from 37 reviews.
Check availability for the stand-up paddle session
For families based further north or south, this is an east-coast activity and the bay is the reason it works. Corralejo and Morro Jable have no equivalent stretch of sheltered flat water, so the recommendation does not travel with you. If you are not staying near Caleta de Fuste, weigh the drive against the beaches that work with children closer to you first, and against the jet ski options that share the same bay at a very different price and age limit.
When to skip it
Skip it if your child cannot swim confidently and the slide is the reason they want to go. Skip it on a windy afternoon. Skip it at noon in high summer with a toddler, when an hour with no shade is simply a bad hour.
Take it if you have an hour, €20, a sheltered bay in front of you and children who want to be in the water rather than looking at it. Within the whole family programme on this island, it is one of the very few water activities that costs almost nothing to abandon — and on a trip with children, that is the feature.
Our recommendation
For most families in Caleta de Fuste: the pedalo with a slide for €20 per group of up to four people. 4.5 stars from 115 reviews, no departure time, and abandoning it costs almost nothing. Go early or late, not at midday, and check the minimum age on the booking page beforehand.
If two adults are taking turns: add the stand-up paddle session for €15. One paddles, one pedals with the children, then you swap. The 4.2 stars are the weakest rating in this selection – SUP alone is not for a small child, because balance is the whole exercise. Anyone wanting instruction takes the SUP course for €35.
For a half day with older kids: the catamaran sailing experience from the same bay for €64 – four hours, 4.7 stars from 798 reviews. That is the opposite of the pedalo: lovely, but not something you can abandon.
What we would not book with small children: the jet ski circuit for €68 per group of up to two people. Twenty minutes, loud and fast, with its own age limit – fun for teenagers and adults, not a family programme.
