Jet ski from Morro Jable without a licence: €80 for half an hour, €149 for the hour

For most couples the answer is the Jet Ski Adventure Tour from Morro Jable: €80 per jet ski for 30 minutes, which carries two people, 4.7 stars from 968 reviews, with hotel transfer included. If half an hour feels too short, the guided Jet Ski Safari lasts an hour for €149 per jet ski, again for two, and goes along the coast towards Punta de Jandía. Both are licence-free and both are guided. Anything starting in Caleta de Fuste or Corralejo is a different comparison, set out in circuit, safari and the real price.

Read the price line twice

Three of the four entries are priced per jet ski, not per head. A couple sharing one machine pays €40 each for the half hour and €74.50 each for the safari hour. That makes the hour on the guided safari the better value per minute: €149 for 60 minutes against €80 for 30.

The fourth listing reverses the logic. Its €150 is a per-person price for an hour, and nothing on the page makes a second rider free, so two adults should expect to pay it twice. It has the highest rating of the four, but from a much smaller sample, and for a pair it costs roughly double the safari.

One more quirk applies to the first two. The system hands out one jet ski for every two people you enter. If you want a machine each, the booking page tells you what to type: two riders who each want their own jet ski enter three participants, four riders enter seven. It is not intuitive, and it is the line people miss.

Half an hour from the beach at Morro Jable

The adventure tour starts at the operator’s small office on the sand, marked by a pink flag. After a briefing on the beach and the rules, a boat takes you out to the machines, and you ride along the beach into open water with instructors watching all the time. Fuel, a guide, photos and video and a neoprene swimsuit are in the price, and the transfer picks up from several areas: Morro Jable, Costa Calma, Esquinzo and Jandía.

Group size is limited to four participants, which means two jet skis. The listing says plainly that the activity may be subject to sea conditions.

Half an hour is short once the briefing and the boat ride are subtracted. It is also the lowest-commitment way to find out whether you like it at all.

The one-hour safari towards Punta de Jandía

The safari meets at the foot of the Morro Jable lighthouse. After a life vest and a short introduction you head out along the coast, past several coves and the small fishing village of Punta de Jandía, with a short swim or snorkel stop of about five minutes and the chance of flying fish. One reviewer on the page reports a dolphin on the way back; that is a review, not a promise.

Fuel, guide, life vest, photos and video and hotel pick-up (according to availability) are included, and the group is again limited to four participants. The page lists people with mobility impairments as unsuitable and says the experience needs good weather.

You are not racing along a marked circuit here, you are following a guide along a coastline, which is the whole point of paying nearly twice as much as for the half hour.

The two rentals from Taurito Water Sport

Both listings come from the same operator and advertise a rental on specialised circuits, supervised by the team, not a guided route. The half hour is €80 per jet ski for one or two people; the hour is €150 per person. Both include insurance; the half-hour listing adds a life vest, safety instructions, lockers for your things and pickup and drop-off from Costa Calma, Esquinzo and Jandía.

The page states that riders must be 16 or older, and that those between 16 and 18 need a parent’s or guardian’s authorisation together with that person’s identity document. Those two rentals are the only listings of the four that state an age rule; the two Morro Jable tours do not state one, so ask the operator before bringing a younger teenager.

If a sixteen-year-old is in your party and you want them on a machine, this is the listing that spells out how. The teenage version of the island is covered in wind, engines, night sky.

Wind, swell and what the pages promise

Two of the four listings say outright that the ride depends on the sea or the weather, and the other two give no weather rule at all. On a windy day this coast can be choppy. How wind decides which outings run is explained in boat trips in wind and swell. Book the morning if you have the choice, and keep a day in reserve.

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start is stated on the first three pages, so booking early costs little.

When to book none of them

When you want to ride alone and fast. These are small-group outings behind a guide; the safari follows a route and the rentals follow a circuit.

When anyone in the party is on the mobility list of the safari, or when the forecast is for a strong wind.

When you only have the budget for one water activity and the whole family wants to come along. A jet ski carries two, and a boat trip carries everyone: dolphin and whale watching or a sailing day divides the same money across the whole group.

Otherwise: two adults who want to try it, the half-hour tour at €80. If you already know you like it, the one-hour safari at €149.
