Fuerteventura for cruise passengers: five shore excursions from €20 to €90, and the question that decides
Updated October 7, 2026 · 8 min read
Your question is not what to see, it is whether you are back on board in time, and no booking page answers it for you. Decide on language first. The two most-reviewed shore excursions, the North of Fuerteventura for Cruise Passengers tour at €35 (4.6 stars from 355 reviews) and a dunes excursion at €20, both run with a German-speaking guide. If you do not speak German, the shortest option is the open-top Corralejo Dunes & La Oliva shore excursion at €40, with an audio guide in English, and the one with the strongest on-time promise is the 4-hour private tour for cruise passengers at €90.
The five excursions side by side
| Tour | Duration | From | Rating | Guide language | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| North of Fuerteventura for Cruise Passengers | 5 hours | €35 | 4.6 from 355 reviews | German | German speakers who want the north and a swim |
| Corralejo Sand Dunes Guided Shore Excursion | 5 hours | €20 | 4.6 from 352 reviews | German | German speakers on a budget who want beach time |
| Corralejo Dunes & La Oliva shore excursion | 3 hours | €40 | 3.6 from 151 reviews | audio guide in English, Spanish, Italian, German | everyone who wants the shortest outing |
| North Fuerteventura: 4-hour tour for cruise passengers (max 6) | 4.5 hours | €90 | 5 from 13 reviews | English, French, Italian, Spanish | small parties who want a fixed return |
| Ajuy Caves & Hike to the Arco de Las Penitas | 7 hours | €80.75 | 4.9 from 80 reviews | English, Spanish, Dutch, German | long calls with a walk |
Prices are per person. All five are listed with a pickup or meeting point at the port of Puerto del Rosario.
The question every listing leaves open
A shore excursion booked through the cruise line and a tour booked on your own are not the same thing when the bus is late. Cruise lines generally hold the ship for their own organised excursions; for a tour you booked yourself, the ship cannot be counted on to wait. Check the terms of your own line, and read the all-aboard time in your daily programme before you pick anything.
Then work backwards. Take the duration on the listing, add the time it takes to walk from the pier to the meeting point and clear the queue at the gangway, and keep at least an hour in hand. That is our advice, not a rule from any of these operators. The listings give a duration, not a promise.
The most-reviewed: the north for €35
The tour begins at the petrol station by the police checkpoint at the port. Over five hours you drive up the north-east coast towards Corralejo, stop at El Cotillo for the cliffs and the surf, visit La Oliva with the Casa de los Coroneles and its church, and return to Corralejo at around 1:30 p.m. The listing then promises a stop at the dunes and the beach for a swim before the drive back to the port. Food and drinks are included in the price. The guide speaks German.
It is the one with the most variety. The cost of that variety is a tight programme: the swim comes at the end, and any delay on the road comes out of it.
Check availability and prices for the north tour
The cheapest: dunes and the Corralejo promenade for €20
This is a five-hour German-language excursion by air-conditioned bus. The meeting point is the harbour at Puerto del Rosario. The programme is the dunes, then free time in the tourist zone of Corralejo from about 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., then the pickup at 1:30 p.m. and the return. Food and drinks are listed as included.
It is free time rather than a tour, which is both its price and its point: swim, shop, have a coffee. The protected landscape behind the beach is explained in the dunes of Corralejo, including what is not allowed there.
The short one: an open-top bus for three hours
This is the quickest of the five: 15 minutes at the dunes, 45 minutes of free time in Corralejo, 30 minutes at an aloe vera shop with a guided visit, 20 minutes in La Oliva and 10 at the church, with a 35-minute bus ride back to the port. The commentary is an audio guide in English, Spanish, Italian and German.
Its rating is the weakest of the group, 3.6 from 151 reviews. The stops are brief and one of them is a shop. If your call is short and you speak none of the guide languages above, it works; otherwise choose a different one.
The private tour: €90 for a fixed return
The guide meets you at the cruise pier at 9:30 a.m. outside the police checkpoint, holding a colourful pinwheel so you can recognise them. The route runs by van to the Corralejo dunes (25 minutes), the lighthouse and the castle at El Tostón, the windmills of Villaverde and the church square in La Oliva, with the Montaña de Tindaya and the monument to Miguel de Unamuno as drive-by views. It takes 4.5 hours.
The listing gives a maximum group size of six in a nine-seat minivan, although its short summary says eight, so check the number when you book. It includes two bottles of water per person and at least 20 professionally edited photos, and it carries the sentence about on-time drop-off at the ship in capitals. Only 13 people have reviewed it, so the five-star average is thin.
A long call: Ajuy and the Peñitas arch
If the ship stays late, the 7-hour outing combines a roughly two-hour walk through the Las Peñitas ravine to the stone window, the sea caves of Ajuy and a sandwich lunch. Cruise guests are picked up at 9:15 a.m. at the port of Puerto del Rosario. The listing does not give a time back at the port, so you would have to ask the operator, and it says the tour does not run in a weather alert or with fewer than two participants.
In the winter months the caves can be closed for safety when the coastal alerts are severe; the visit to the village of Ajuy and the lunch still happen. A self-drive route to the same coast is described in the one drive worth taking.
When to book none of them
When your ship is in for only a few hours and you cannot spare an hour in hand. Staying near the port costs nothing.
When you did not book through the line and the all-aboard time is early. That is the only situation in which the risk is yours alone.
When you want a beach day and nothing else. The €20 dunes excursion is already that; for other beaches, the family-friendly beaches lists them.
Otherwise: German speakers, the north tour at €35. Everyone else with a short call, the three-hour bus at €40; with a small party and a firm deadline, the private tour at €90.
